I purchased the cafe specialty smart coffee maker. The copper handle is peeling away and eroding the handle. I contacted customer service and going back and forth with them for two months! They have tried to make it extremely difficult for me to receive a replacement pot i paid $260 for this coffee maker and i expected a much better response. I have all GE PRODUCTS but their customer service is way below par. SO DISAPPOINTED! F- Rating

Coffee maker does not meet my needs.

If you like bold coffee this not the coffee maker for you. Even selecting the extra bold feature does not create a really bold pitcher of coffee. There is no way to make the coffee bolder except to use preground beans where you can increase the amount of grounds used, which defeats the purpose of a coffee maker that has a grind capability. Also the coffee maker does not like dark roast coffee beans that are oily. They clog up the coffee bin. Suggested solution in manual is to mix the dark roast beans with medium roast beans. This reduces the boldness of the brewed coffee, so not a very good solution. Also the coffee maker weighs almost 25 pounds so it is hard to move the maker back and forth underneath a cabinet. The maker must be moved out to load beans and water. Finally the carafe and brew basket are not dishwasher safe so they must be washed by hand after each use. I returned the maker because I could not brew the coffee the way I wanted and the inconvenience of the weight and non dishwasher features. I have many GE appliances in my kitchen and believe they provide a very good product. All my concerns would have made me buy a different product if I knew of the issues. I also have found GE product support to be exceptional.

Brew Basket Opens During Grind

Machine is only a couple of months old and the brew basket pops open as soon as the grind function begins. I have cleaned all areas and components. I have descaled (even though more or less new) as well. Changed the setting for a more course grind. The basket itself has a lot of play. Will be returning and hope for a new machine that will work. We do like the quality of the coffee when it does brew.

Great coffee, but....

The coffee that it makes is flavorful - however it is a problem with the machine. The side vent spits and leaks water out as if it was a small geyser. It also leaks water out onto the carafe and then will start to leak out of the bottom if you don't soak the water up after every use.

There aren't many options that offer both carafe and single serve options in a home machine. But of the few that I found and/or tried, this is the better option, hands down. With only a tweak or two, it would absolutely be in a class of its own, if it's not already. The goods things... Water volume - I mostly use it as a single serve machine and I get about 6 large 14oz cups from a tank, which covers at least 2 typical days or more for me, and runs out just before the bean hopper does - nice. Consistency - Each cup has been just like the previous with the same settings, i.e. same volume, same grinds in the basket, same flavor, etc. (Another machine from a different mfgr often times wasn't even close between cups). It's quiet - The grinder is the quietest of any that I've compared - really impressive. From my phone, from my bed - With just a few taps of my phone, I can start the machine from anywhere. Added controls - At least from the app, there are nice options to adjust various aspects of the brew, such as grinding time, bloom, etc. Cleanup - So far has been quite simple. The grinder doesn't make a horrible mess all over as I've seen in others, and I like that! Takes me less than 30 seconds to clean the basket and mesh filter between cups. Well worth it knowing that I'm getting a fresh bean-to-cup every time. Size and style - Fits beautifully underneath my cabinet and takes up much less space than a typical machine, especially when you have a separate grinder! And it looks so much better, too! What keeps it from getting the 5th star?.... The slider - Don't forget to confirm the adjustment. The slider is what depresses the stopper in the basket so that it will release and fill a single cup since a carafe is not underneath to press it manually. I've forgotten it a time or two, and fortunately, it didn't overflow. Instead, it was like an infusion where the grounds sit in the water for an extended period of time. The cup of coffee was good, but it caused a little silt in the bottom of the cup which leaves an off-putting texture in your mouth. I think that's something that could be fixed on future models. Different settings based upon access - Not all features and/or adjustments can be made manually. There are more options for control via the app than from the manual touch pad interface. No bloom selections, grind time adjustment, etc. from the manual controls. That's unfortunate. Restricted height - Would be really nice if a small portion of the drip tray could be removed to accommodate a larger travel mug. Seems that everyone likes about 7" clearance, but I have a couple of travel mugs/thermoses that are just a little taller. The additional inch or two that that would accommodate would go a long way. And, too much height, sometimes - Although any splatter that I've gotten has been rather minimal, a foldable stand that would accommodate a shorter mug would be nice. As I mentioned earlier, I use a rather large mug and there will occasionally be a few splatter droplets outside the mug. But a smaller mug results in a larger mess that could easily be avoided if the mug were lifted an inch or two. So all in all, no regrets. I know that the imperfections are probably kinda picky, but at a price point that this machine falls in to, I don't feel like it's asking too much. And at the end of the day, it's a MUCH better machine than any others of a similar price.

I've had the maker for about a year. The catch for the grounds basket is junk. Mine pop's open consistently. That stops the cycle, but will restart when closed. It seems like the basket assembly just has too much slop. There's a support that should help locate the basket to keep it from popping open, but doesn't. I don't know if it's materials, tolerancing, thermal effects, but it's crappy. Ultimately while trying to get the basket to stay closed, I broke the the tab on the basket that keeps it closed. It doesn't seem like the basket assembly is replaceable. So, this is headed for the trash. The app is below average. Won't allow a scheduled x-strong 10-cup brew. But you can do that as a predefined brew and just manually start it through the app... The app allows for additional grind time which is nice, because the brews are otherwise on the weak side. The hopper is a little small, but holds about 3-4 pots worth of beans for x-strong

I™€™ve only used the coffee maker to make single cups, which is why I bought it. No matter what I do the coffee is incredibly weak. I™€™ve set it on gold. I™€™ve set it on bold I™€™ve set it on extra bold, I have adjusted the grind size. Nothing works. I get weak watery coffee every time.

This is a replacement for the 2 Cuisinart's we have had over the years, so far I love it, much quieter, I like how you can do a mug option, I like the water holder a lot too and all the options for brew strength and temp, that is a huge plus! Only complaint is the water sprinkler thing that gets full of grounds every time you use it. So far so good though!

Love everything about this product, but there™€™s one annoying issue. The coffee filter door keeps popping open during the grinding process. Even after cleaning it per instructions, the door keeps popping open. I may have to return it and just keep my 15 year old Cuisinart coffee maker that hasn™€™t had one issue since owning it. The reason my wife gifted me this coffee machine was because we™€™ve replaced all of our kitchen appliances with GE Profile and the stove top with Monogram.

This thing bews a great cup of coffee.... when it actually brews it! Wored great for a week.. Now it's add beans.. beans are full, add water. Water is full, I spend more time cleaning descaling and putting this thng back together than we do making coffee. The 10 cup capacity is silly! The app interface is more of a headache than convenience! I service the grinder every other day. Doesn't hold a ton of beans either. If you are single, and have time to kill this is the coffee pot for you.. if more than 1 person in the house requires coffee pass on the expensive paper weight! I would have got rid of it by now but the stupid thing is expensive!! So yes I have had the piece of junk for 5 months and pray I get a cup of coffee when I wake up!

Design flaw causes basket to pop open during grind

The product makes good coffee, but it has a design flaw. The basket door pops open during grinding and has to be held closed. It works for the first few brews, then starts popping open and won't stay closed. We returned the first one and got a second, which had the same problem so we returned the 2nd also.

Best coffee maker I've ever owned! A burr grinder coffee marker that calculates how many beans to use was my #1 request. Beyond that, it offers personalization for grinding size, temperature and brew strength. The fact that it is pre-programed for the Gold standard was a plus! Was concerned about not having a heating element, but the stainless steel carafe keeps coffee hot and there is a timer that reflects how long it has been since brewing was complete. Fantastic choice - delicious coffee.

Average coffee maker

Makes good coffee, but the coffee grounds climb all the way up the sides of the filter and are a mess to clean. The bin that holds the ground coffee is a bit difficult to get out of the coffee maker and the area beneath the bin has coffee stains and bits of ground coffee in it every day that can not be completely cleaned. The setting to have the coffee brewed each morning has to be activated each day - you cannot set it to brew coffee each day, say at 7am, for example. The bin that holds the coffee beans is a bit small and has to be refilled every 2-3 days. I replaced my other brand coffee maker with this one and regret it.

Brews a great cup of coffee. The app sucks ! does not allow me to save a schedule. Not intuitive. Constantly floods me with notifications that are false positives. I disabled the bean sensor that helped a bit. The rest of the notifications are just random nonsense i.e. ensure filter basket is seated etc etc. Please fix the app !!

The coffee settings are perfect - Fresh ground Bold brew was perfect. However, our 1st coffee maker and it's replacement both had different mechanical problems and I cannot recommend anyone spend $300 on a coffe maker that doesn't work. The Original coffee maker worked for 5 months but then the computerized grind/water ratio broke and we'd end up with a dribble of water poured over grounds for a full pot - or barely any grounds and a full pot of coffee water. GE replaced the unit with one that has a faulty basket latch. The latch routinely pops open during the grinding process which stops the process until I shut the basket and hold it closed until the grinding is done.
