It compacts well but the foot pedal is very hard to push to open. It is at an angle already so surface area is limited so takes a lot of effort to push. Also, takes a lt effort to close. I have to push with foot to get it to close fully. It also doesn't close flush even though measurements indicate that it should.

I had this trash compactor less than 3 years when it stopped working. I was able to repair it the first time and got another year out of it and then it failed again, this time it was not worth repairing. It seems to me something this expensive should have lasted a great deal longer. I felt I had to purchase another because it was the only unit that worked with the custom panel I had invested in. I hope I have better luck this time. I bought an extended warrenty just to be safe.

This is my second unit. I like a trash compactor but this unit has a construction flaw. After a short period of time the bolts on the foot pedal wear thru the thin metal barrier. I needed to weld a washer to the existing metal for a fix. Unfortunately there are not a lot of options for trash compactors

While our GE compactor works sufficiently, it is louder than our previous one. It also doesn't have the feature, without me remembering the proper name, would super compact the trash container. But for around $1k less expensive, it does the job acceptably.

Currently, we have it free-standing while we are working on our kitchen and have been using it for 1 month now.
Overall, we are happy with the unit. The capacity is great. As a family of 4, we now only have one bag a week (we don't put big boxes in it).
Taking off one star for the noise/quality and price.
The noise is rather loud, so we purchased a sound-deadening mat ($20 from Amazon); it will be even quieter once installed properly, of course.
For the price of over $1200 retail, the unit does not scream high-end. I'm lucky I got this at a steal and only paid $450, I definitely would not have paid full price. Haven't broken the foot pedal yet, LOL.

I purchased this unit over 1 year ago, so it is out of warranty. Even though it wasn't installed until 11 months ago. Regardless, you don't expect an appliance to malfunction in this short of a window. When you run a compact, it compacts, but will not stop.
And I had these shipped to puerto rico with many other appliances I purchased for a remodel. Now that I need service, I find out they don't service trash compactors in Puerto Rico!!! Wish I had known that before buying it.

I bought the panel-ready trash compactor UCG1510N0II 2 years ago. The foot pedal has detached on one side due to the screw breaking through the screw hole on the drawer unit. I already had one of your GE technicians out this morning ($123 for the visit) only to tell me that the entire drawer unit must be replaced and that the part costs $800. I cannot afford this. It is almost the cost of replacing the entire unit. I did some searching online and I see now there are many many reviews reporting the same issue. This is obviously a defect or poor design that GE is already aware of.

This compactor couldn't even live up to the abuse of a 7 year old child. The footboard/Toe Pedal will break because of poor Pivot Hole Design. Many customers have complained about this issue with this model.

We have had nothing but problems with this model UCG151ONII. Customer Service refuses to assist with replacement of this product. The drum will stop compacting even with the motor running. The footboard will snap off resulting in the inability to open and close the compactor in addition to failing to compact the trash. Spend your money on another vendors' product.

I got this compactor thinking I would save a lot of room and trips to the outdoor trash can. Overall the product is good. It is very loud. The pedal hurts to pull up when you are in bare feet so make sure you wear shoes. You can use regular trash bags which I love. It does not compact sometimes and I cannot figure out any rhyme or reason. It was $1200.00 so I guess I will live with my decision.

Love the way the compactor blends in with the kitchen cabinetry. The reinforced, handled insert to lift out compacted refuse is a very nice feature and the controlled foot pedal to open and compact is very convenient.

We are not happy with the proiduct. Like many GE products, the quality it poor. The unit is loud and intermittently bangs and vibrates. The toe kick is basic at best and does not reflect at $1000 plus trash compactor.

I wanted to follow up on my review from 10/10/23 but couldn't find a way to amend it. GE reached out to me after my review was posted and offered to help repair my compactor. They didn't have to do this as my compactor was out of warranty. While I am disappointed that my compactor broke so quickly, I can't say enough good about the service from GE. Every interaction I have had with them has been top notch! Thank you!

This trash compactor is absolutley garbage and deserves to be compacted on it's own. We have had constant issues with this thing and the only good thing I can say is that I'm glad we have an extended warranty. The product failed within the first 6 months and has continued to fail repeatedly even after multiple parts have been replaced. I believe the threaded rods that drive the ram are too short and they constantly come off the power nuts and then it just stops working. We had another brand trash compactor for at least 15 years with no issues and this is just an absolute piece of garbage. GE will write some fake response like they care but they don't. Avoid this at all costs.

I did a review last week and was told someone from GE would be reaching out to talk to me about my situation. No on to date has reached out. I am no assuming that it is just an automated response to anyone that puts a bad comment on this page. So, so disappointing. If you read my other post you will see that this unit uses plastic screws that break and cost over half the cost of a new compactor to fix. Not only that, but the fix is again with plastic screws so it will break again. I can not and will not recommend this product to anyone. Also, since my post, the rails where the wheels glide when you pull out the compactor is bent because the compactor when opening slides at a down hill slope and when it stops sliding it bends the glide.

I must preface this review because I have been a steadfast GE customer for over 30 years. Purchasing mostly from the Monogram line and not straying far from that. I am so disappointed with this product! It was installed in my home just over a year ago, but we did not move into our home until April of this year, just over 5 months ago. We have used our compactor for over five months, which is already broken. The ram will no longer lower into the compactor due to the plastic screws that hold the ram into place. The screws have been severed, allowing the ram to go too far into the cavity. I paid a 120.00 bill to have a repair man come and fix it and was told it would be 800.00. So, in other words, it will just happen again. AND... the same parts (plastic) would be used to do so as that is the replacement part from GE. Also, the toe pedal opener snapped away from the compactor as the screw that holds it in place tore through the metal on the bin. We were able to fix this by soldering a washer onto the bin. As stated above, I have used GE products in my last three homes; in the last home, I had a compactor that, when I moved out, was still in working order 13 years later.

I chose this as I™™ve always had good experiences with Monogram appliances. This lasted a little over two years and now needs a repair that will cost as much as a new one. I definitely won™™t be buying this one again.

Home depot failed to install the panels as pictured above! This was an expensive appliance that looks ridiculous and does NOT flow with the rest of the kitchen cabinets. They only installed one big panel over the entire face of the compactor. They did not install the drawer face up top so it foes NOT look as pictured! Totally lame looking

I received a defective compactor that was damaged upon arrival. Has never worked, and jammed the first try of use. Informed the dealer and the dealer sent in a work request that was received. I received a text from GE that a service representative w ok I™™d call me on 24 hours, that was over 5 months ago. I want a reimbursement or a new compactor. I thought buying American would have better service.

This is a built in unit. Ram now goes up and machine refuses to reverse to cycle down to compact. Attempted to schedule warranty service and there are no technicians in my area. Now I have an $1,100 trash can instead of a high end teach compactor.

I have not had a trash compactor for 5 or so years. when we remodeled our kitchen, I bought a trash compactor. I use it several times a day and I am happy that my trash doesn't fill up my garbage can outside - the trash compactor keeps my trash under control. I am very thankful that I have this trash compactor.

Though it works fine, we're disappointed that it lacks a hard pack feature and does not have a deodorizer, especially for the price. A hard pack feature is great when you need another day or put a lot of trash in at the same time. Perhaps these features are simply no longer available.
